I worked in the animation of the banner and badge for DBD's reverence rift.
The Rift is a recurring time-limited event that expands the Lore of Dead by Daylight and provides players with in-game challenges, the completion of which unlocks new cosmetic pieces for various characters.
Style Rank System
The Style Rank system for The Trickster in Dead by Daylight is a performance-based mechanic that rewards precision and aggression. By landing consecutive blade hits and performing actions like hooking Survivors or breaking objects, your Rank evolves from E to S, which significantly boosts your blade-throwing and reload speeds.
I implemented the full visual and interactive UMG setup for The Trickster’s Style Rank system in Dead by Daylight. Each rank has its own animation, including the progress steps between ranks and the transitions when ranking up or down.
The system was built using UMG, Blueprint logic, UI materials, Timeline animations, and tween animations. I handled the full UMG implementation and Blueprint logic for each rank state, integrating data provided by Gameplay and UI programmers.
Based on the UI design mockups, I also created the textures used in the materials and animations, working with Photoshop and Substance Designer to support the final visual style.
The Style Rank system is a performance-based mechanic for The Trickster that rewards precision and aggression. By landing consecutive blade hits and performing actions like hooking survivors or breaking objects, the player’s rank evolves from E to S to activate Trickster’s Main Event, triggering a 10-second window where you can throw an infinite flurry of knives at maximum velocity without slowing down to reload.
Trickster’s Laceration
In Dead by Daylight, The Trickster’s Laceration is a unique power mechanic that requires Survivors to dodge his thrown Blades. Every Blade that hits a Survivor fills their Laceration Meter; once the meter is filled, the Survivor loses a health state.
For the Laceration UI, I followed a similar pipeline to the Style Rank system, creating the visual assets in Photoshop and Substance Designer, then building the materials and implementing them in UMG.
For this feature, I updated the existing WBP to support new visuals, animations, and logic. I also built a dynamic system that allows Game Designers to adjust the number of Laceration markers for balancing purposes. Both the material and the WBP were set up to fully support changes to the marker count without requiring additional visual rework.
The Trickster’s Laceration is a unique power mechanic built around his thrown Blades. Each Blade hit fills the Survivor’s Laceration Meter, and once the meter is full, the Survivor loses a health state.
